Police Reports: Sex Assault, DUI, Theft and Defecation

Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault, made an arrest for DUI and another for theft. A youthful offender may soon be charged for defecating on the library men's room floor.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

Alleged Sexual Assault

Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that took place in the parking lot at 380 Monroe Turnpike on Feb. 21.

A 24-year-old Stamford man met a 22-year-old Bridgeport woman on the online dating site PlentyOfFish.com and picked her up at her home, according to police, who said he then drove her around Newtown and Monroe on their date.

The woman told police that the man tried to force himself on her while parked in the parking lot at 380 Main Street at around 9 p.m. No weapon was used, according to the report.

Newtown police informed Monroe police about the complaint, because the victim initially filed the it there. Police said the victim's date had told her they were in Newtown when the alleged incident took place.

An arrest warrant is expected.

Men's Room Incident

An employee of Edith Wheeler Memorial Library reported seeing fecal matter on the floor of the men's room and smeared on the back of the toilet and around the seat on March 2.

Police said the incident took place the day before and that a review of surveillance camera footage showed three teenage boys enter the bathroom together and laughing as they left. A school resource officer identified them.

One of the males, a 17-year-old Monroe resident, admitted to commiting the act, according to police. An arrest warrant for breach of peace has been applied for.

DUI on Main

A Trumbull woman was arrested for drunken driving at 12:37 Tuesday morning when an officer observed her Subaru heading north on Main Street with one working headlight and no working taillights, according to police.

After the vehicle stopped, police said the driver opened her door and started backing up toward the police cruiser, which had to back up about 20 feet to avoid being hit. The officer yelled several times before the woman stopped her Subaru and turned off the engine, the report said.

The driver, Susan K. Vasone, 51, of Kent Lane had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her and fumbled over her paperwork, police said.

She denied drinking that night, but field sobriety tests determined she was under the influence, according to the report. At police headquarters, police said Vasone recorded a .258 blood alcohol level on a breath test.

Vasone was charged with DUI and released on $500 bond for a March 13 court date.

A Shoplifting Arrest

A Bridgeport woman arrested for shoplifting at supermarket Monday afternoon also admitted to shoplifting at pharmacy in the shopping center at 535 Monroe Turnpike, according to police.

Dennisse F. Charafeddine, 43, of Bunnell Street was charged with two counts of sixth-degree larceny and released on a total bond of $1,000 for a March 14 court date.

Police said Big Y's loss prevention officer recognized Charafeddine as a past shoplifter when she entered the store at around 2:17 p.m., and officers arrested her for trying to conceil baby formula and a 20-can box of soda in her cart.

The merchandise is valued at $81.16.

During the arrest, police said Charafeddine also admitted to stealing a $16.99 can of baby formula from CVS.

Thank you everyone for your comments. Carl - will try not to be offended by your "anyone withRead More half a brain" comment. I am dismayed to hear Dawn that you have made this effort and been turned down by the town and police department (it's not uncommon for me to see the police speeding up and down Moose Hill Road too!) Glad to hear, though, that I am not alone in seeing a need for people to get a grip on the road. Slow down. Hang up. Comply with stop signs and stop lights. Be courteous.

I have been tail-gated so many times - everywhere in Monroe - I drive a little over the posted speedRead More limit BUT I respect the people walking (most of the time in the wrong direction) and bike riders (they too ride in the wrong direction. HANG UP THE PHONE - DON'T PIGGY BACK thru a stop sign, and learn the right of way rule. AND STOP SIGNS mean S T O P!!! Robin lane people are good for running stop signs. And Pepper Street is 25 mph - NOT 45 or 50!!! Walkers & runners FACE TRAFFIC - Bike riders RIDE WITH TRAFFIC. AND one more thing - don't block the drive ways if there is a stop light - and someone coming in or out - let them and move on. THANKS for letting me get this off my chest!!!!!

Good luck Laura, My husband and I tried to get some on Purdy Hill Road from Rt.111 to Rt.25. theyRead More said they can't do it. I have asked numerous times to have a police officer sit in Farmview or use our driveway, said it's too dangerous, go figure. Tired of drivers around town having no respect for other drivers and people walking on side of road. It gets to the point that I don't even want to leave my house. Get a clue people slow down, stay off phones, it's not hard.
