Bogus kidnapping, DUI arrests, fraud cases, vandalism and an arrest at Harding High School's prom

An anonymous caller told a Barn Hill Road woman he kidnapped her brother and demanded $500 ransom, but later called her cell phone again to up the ante to $1,500. The caller told the woman and her husband to get the money from an ATM, fly to Puerto Rico and hand it over, according to the police report filed Saturday.

Citibank contacted a Walnut Street man after seeing unusual charges on his MasterCard, according to a police complaint filed Friday.

Police said there was a $13 charge on the victim's statement with a phone number of the merchant, which he called and got a recording asking him to enter the last four digits of his credit card number. That raised red flags, according to police, who said additional charges of $20.01 and $10 were made to companies in Monroe and California, whose existence could not be verified.

Police said the victim had his card on him the whole time, adding the incident is under investigation.

Garbage and Feces

A Walnut Street woman originally thought an animal had gotten into her garbage cans when she saw trash strewn about her yard. But she now suspects someone is playing pranks on her after it happened again, even though she sealed the lids onto her garbage pails tightly, using bungee cord.

In addition to trash, she believes human feces was mixed into the latest mess, according to the police report filed Thursday.

A Slap at the Prom

A Bridgeport teen was arrested at The Waterview during the Harding High School Prom Saturday night, after police officers saw her allegedly slap her date in the face, according to the police report.

Amanda Bolivar, 19, of Court D Success Village was charged with breach of peace and released to her mother for a May 9 court date.

A Monroe officer and a Bridgeport school resource officer saw Bolivar standing over her date, an 18-year-old male seated in a chair, as they argued, before she allegedly slapped his face.

DUI Arrest

The report of an intoxicated woman attempting to get into her car outside St. Jude School at 6:59 Saturday night, led to the arrest of a Williams Road woman.

Nancy Souza, 51, was charged with DUI, operating with a suspended license, driving with an obscured license plate, possession of narcotics and failure to keep drugs in the original container. Bond was set at $1,000 for a May 16 court date.

Officers arrived at the school parking lot as Souza was leaving and stopped her car based upon the description and because of an obscured license plate, according to police.

Souza was slurring her words, had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot, police said, adding field sobriety tests determined she was under the influence.

Inside her purse, officers found seven pills — two different kinds — that were not prescribed to Souza and were not in the original containers, police said.

Near Collision with a Police Car ...

A Trumbull motorist was arrested for drunken driving after nearly hitting a police cruiser head on, while heading north on Monroe Turnpike in his Hyundai at 2:25 a.m. Saturday.

Harold DeLeon, 30, of Broadway was charged with DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $500 bond for a May 16 court date.

Police said DeLeon's Hyundai crossed the center line in the 500 block of Monroe Turnpike and nearly struck the police car heading the other way. The officer turned around and pulled over the car, according to the report.

DeLeon had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on him, spoke with a slurred speech, and had glassy and bloodshot eyes, police said. Field sobriety and breath tests determined DeLeon was under the influence, according to police.
