Police Reports: Sign, Sign Everywhere a Sign

Advertising cannot be posted on utility poles or trees as one business owner was warned

Police issued a verbal warning to the owner of Route 25 Junk Haulers Sunday after someone complained about signs the business affixed to a utility pole and a tree at 256 Main Street. Both signs had the business' name and a telephone phone number.

An officer called the number, left a message and received no response, before going to Junk Haulers where a man told them his girlfriend just started the business, according to the report. Though the signs were on his property, Connecticut General Statutes say a sign must be secured on the ground and not supported by a pole or tree.
