A husband and wife were arrested for shoplifting Thursday after Big Y Supermarket's loss prevention officer reviewed surveillance footage from July 16, saw them steal $374 worth of items and recognized them from a similar incident when the couple was arrested at a Big Y in Stratford on March 11, police said.

Police said Karen Bauvais Frulla stole an aluminum wallet, a 24 pack of water and a coffee maker and that her husband Frank pushed the carriage.

Both were charged with criminal trespass and sixth-degree larceny. Frank Frulla was also charged with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. Both were released on $500 bond for an Oct. 6 court date.

Stranger Offers Kids a Ride

A Lazy Brook Road woman told police Thursday that her two daughters, ages 10 and 4, were walking home from a friend's house in a light rain at around 1:30 Thursday afternoon, when a stranger drove up to them near Spinning Wheel Road and offered them a ride. They did not get into the man's car.

Police said the man was described as having gray and black hair and was driving a new "tannish-gray" car.

Officers searched the perimeter of the neighborhood, but could not find a car fitting the girls' description, according to the report.

Sgt. Pete Howard said police do not know if it was a neighbor trying to be nice or someone with bad intentions. He said there have been no other reports of strangers trying to pick up children in town.

A Stolen Wrist Pouch

A woman reported her wrist pouch stolen from a Big Y shopping cart Monday. Police said it contained her driver's license, credit and debit cards, which have already been used by an identity thief.

The victim had gotten home from grocery shopping when she realized she forgot her pouch in her shopping cart. She called the store with a description, but no one had seen it and turned it in, according to the report.

Burglary at RER

The locks were cut for two trailers at RER Storage Facility at 453 Pepper Street and two older model dirt bikes and landscaping equipment were stolen, according to a Thursday report.
