Police Reports: Thefts of Baby Formula, Checks and Cold, Hard Cash

Officers are investigating a theft of close to $1,000 from the Town Cleaners, baby formula from Big Y and $2,260 worth of stolen checks.

Stolen Checks

A 52-year-old Porters Road man left his vehicle at the Monroe Service Center, 396 Monroe Turnpike, on Sept. 11 so it could be repaired the next morning. But police said the service station called him on the 12th to inform him that his vehicle had been entered sometime overnight.

Papers were strewn about, but there was no damage to the vehicle and nothing appeared to be missing, according to police.

However, online bank statements later showed $2,260 worth of checks from the victim's business account had been fraudulently made out to the same individual from the period of Sept. 11-18, two cashed at Bank of America and three at Chase Bank.

The theft was reported on Tuesday and police are investigating.

Caught on Tape

Big Y supermarket's loss prevention officer was reviewing video when he noticed a white woman with a heavy build shoplifting baby formula on Sept. 19. The theft was then reported to police on Thursday.

The store determined that $144.63 worth of Gerber and Enfamil baby formula were stolen, police said. Baby formula is commonly used to cut drugs when mixing.

Police have obtained the video and are investigating the incident.

Cleaned Out

The Town Cleaners at 535 Monroe Turnpike reported the theft Wednesday of an envelop containing somewhere between $950 and $1,000 worth of cash receipts from behind the counter.

At around 3:18 p.m., an employee saw an African-American woman, who appeared to be in her 30s, 5'1 with a small frame, enter the cleaners and walk behind the counter, according to the report. Police said the woman appeared to be under the influence of something, and told the employee she was looking for boxes when asked what she was doing.

She left the business and police said the employee noticed the money was missing. Police are investigating.
