Copper coils were stolen from four air conditioning units at the diner on Main Street, three DUI arrests were made, there were two reports of vandalism and a raccoon escaped

Swerving on Main Street

A Danbury man was arrested for DUI Saturday night after police received a report of a green 2002 Ford F150 pick up driving erratically in the 100 block of Main Street at 10:02 p.m.

Angel Pesantez, 48, of Grand Street was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. Bond was set at $500 for a July 5 court date.

Officers found the Ford, swerving to the right and correcting its path, in the 500 block of Main Street and stopped the truck, according to the report. Pesantez had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence, police said.

Later at the police station, police said Pesantez did not follow directions on a breath test, which counts as a refusal.

 'A Geek'

Black spray paint was used to write "A Geek" and "Geek" on the back of the Village Square shopping center building on Monroe Turnpike. Police said an officer discovered the graffiti at 4:43 a.m. on June 24.

Theft at the Diner

The new owner of the diner at 568 Main Street is performing a massive renovation to the old building. Four air conditioning units were removed from the roof on June 17 when it was being repaired and the units were found to be in good condition, but when the units were checked again on June 20, police said the copper coils were missing from each one.

The AC units are valued at $7,000 a piece, police said.

Raccoon Escapes

A Mon Tar Drive family hired a professional trapper to resolve a problem of raccoons nesting in the upper level crawl space of their home. Police said a raccoon was caught in a trap on the roof on Friday night, but that the animal was gone the next day.

The family filed a complaint on Saturday because they believe someone may have used a ladder to climb up onto their roof and let the raccoon go, according to the report.

Lawn Damage

A 49-year-old Stoneybrook Road man told police he was sitting in his living room Thursday afternoon when he saw a white pick up truck pass by the window while driving on his lawn, which had recently been reseeded, according to the report made at 4 p.m.

He estimates there was $250 worth of damage to his lawn from the 91-feet of tire tracks, police said.

Evading Leads to DUI

Officers responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident on Route 110, near Whitney Farms at 4:48 p.m. on Sunday. Police said there were tire marks and debris leading into a guardrail, but no car.

Using descriptions of the vehicle and a partial plate number given by witnesses and car parts left on the metal beam officers searched the area and found a man trying to change a flat tire on his tan Mercury Sable just over the Shelton town line, at North Street and Green Acre Road, police said.

The man, Marcin Binkowski, 36, of Lakeview Avenue in Shelton, admitted to having been involved in an accident and the damage to his vehicle matched the parts and debris found at the scene on Route 110, according to police. While talking to Binkowski, officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on him and field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence, according to the report.

Police said Binkowski refused to take a breath test at police headquarters.

He was charged with  evading responsibility, failure to drive in a proper lane and driving under the influence. He was released on $500 bond for a July 5 court date.

April Accident Leads to DUI

A Marsh Pond Lane woman turned herself in on a warrant for DUI Friday afternoon. Police said blood results obtained from the hospital after a one-car accident on Cutlers Farm Road on April 24 led to the warrant.

On April 24, police said Elise Spitzer, 20, was driving on Cutlers Farm Road when her vehicle struck a stonewall at Charter Road.

She was released on $250 bond for a July 1 court date.
