That's Not the Bathroom

A Trumbull man was arrested at court Wednesday for the alleged theft of a $2,500 engagement ring and other assorted jewelry from a Twin Brook Terrace resident in April.

Matthew Pavia, 34, whose last known address is Lake View Avenue in Trumbull, was charged with third-degree larceny. He was held on $25,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Police said Pavia was being held in court on unrelated charges Wednesday.

In April, he was visiting a relative in her Twin Brook Terrace home, so he could borrow tools, according to the report. Police said she saw Pavia in her bedroom and he told her he got lost looking for the bathroom.

Several weeks later, the victim discovered her jewelry was missing, police said.

Shoplifting Caught on Camera

Big Y Supermarket, 535 Monroe Turnpike, reported the theft of $137 worth of items Wednesday. Police said the theft took place on July 16, and the store referred it to its loss prevention department on the 20th, which reviewed the evidence before filing the complaint.

Surveillance cameras recorded a woman filling her shopping cart with items before rolling it past a cash register without paying and leaving the store. Police said they will be preparing an arrest warrant once the suspect is positively identified.
