Police: Thief Pawns Ring, Buys it Back & Returns it

A woman allegedly stole a $1,600 ring from a Lynn Drive resident and pawned it, before having second thoughts and buying it back and returning it in a way that the victim thought she must have lost it when it turned up in her home, according to police. Nevertheless, the suspect in the theft was arrested on a warrant during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

Jennifer Kelly, 30, of Meadows End Road in Monroe was charged with fourth-degree larceny and released on $2,000 bond.

Police said the ring was reported stolen on Aug. 20 after being missing for several days. An investigation found that Kelly pawned it on Aug. 19 and bought it back on Aug. 23, according to the report.

On Aug. 24, the victim, apparently thinking she had just lost her ring, called police to say she found it in another room of her house.

Using the information from their investigation, police had applied for the warrant for Kelly's arrest.
