Black Pedestrian Target of Racial Slur, Thrown Milkshake

A 40-year-old African-American man was reportedly harassed while walking along Main Street.

A 40-year-old African-American man was walking along the 100-block of Main Street at around 3:27 Thursday afternoon when he heard a voice coming from a white station wagon yelling a racial slur at him. Then a milkshake was thrown at him, police said.

The shake did not hit the pedestrian, who told officers that there were four white males, who appeared to be in their late teens, in the car. Police said the victim was unable to get the license plate number.

I am embarrassed to be a member of a town that would do something so disgusting to an individual. I am in an interractial marriage and have a bi-racial 2 year old. We have not experienced any acts of hatred and we find the town of monroe to be very friendly, hardworking people. I am praying this is an isolated incident.

The youths who did that may also be from out-of-town, which I hope is the case. Not that it's good anywhere, but better for it not to be in Monroe IMO.

Bill, i was thinking the same thing.

Jacob's Mama, I have lived in Monroe for nearly 40 years and have never seen nor heard any acts or words of racial hatred from the residents of our town. You are right to be disgusted----so am I.

A white station wagon? They must have been from out of town.

This makes me sick!

I'm sure they are from here. That is typical behavior for Monroe punks.

Instead of an "act of hatred", I'd rather like to believe it is just a bunch of immature brats (with clearly to much time on their hands), acting stupid! I wonder what are the chances the MPD, saved the milkshake cup and dusted for prints?

maybe i watch too many cop shows, but if the finger print thing does not work and the drink was still cold enough to be in shake form they should be able to figure out where it was served from and then go to the business for surveilance video and get an idea of the plate etc...

Well howany white station wagons can there be in Monroe?
Craig Zac August 06, 2012 at 02:11 AM

Profiling a trouble maker is putting yourself on the same level as those kids.

Dusting for prints? Surveillance video? While the act was shameful, was a crime even committed?
Alex August 07, 2012 at 04:54 PM
Finger prints won't do much if they aren't in the system already =/. It probably was just a bunch of teenager punks, but didn't this happen before in the past (Someone throwing a milkshake out a window at a pedestrian)?
