Report: Person Struck by Metro-North Train in Fairfield

Fairfield police are investigating the accident in which one person may have been killed.

Fairfield police are investigating a report of a person struck by a New Haven-bound Metro-North train on the tracks behind the Kings Highway Cutoff , according to a report in the Connecticut Post.

The report came in at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The victim was struck near a construction site on Kings Highway. According to the Post it is believed the person died instantly, though that was not confirmed by police Saturday.

The Post reported that the train was stopped on the tracks for about an hour and a half while emergency crews and MTA officials investigated the scene.

Metro-North's official Twitter account, @MetroNorthTweet, tweeted at 8:20 p.m. that New Haven line customers should expect 10-20 minutes of residual delays due to police activity in Fairfield.

As of 8:24 p.m., Metro-North tweeted the New Haven Line had resumed operating on or close to schedule.
