A Stop & Shop employee saw a woman lingering in the Health & Beauty aisle at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday and checked the shelves, which she had recently stocked, as soon as the woman walked away. Police said she found "numerous" empty hooks where the Trojan condoms were supposed to be.
Then police said the woman, described as white, with dark hair, in her late-20's and heavyset, went to a self checkout machine with her boyfriend, described as African-American, bald and in his 30's. Despite having a large backpack in their cart, police said the couple only scanned two items for a total of $6.75.
The self-service manager grew concerned, but told police that the man gave her "a scary look", according to the report.
Police said the duo left the store with 11 boxes of Trojans valued at $9.99 each.
Other employees told police the same couple had tried to purchase condoms and Red Bull energy drinks a week before, but that all of their credit cards were declined.
