Swerving Leads to DUI Charge

A Brookfield man was charged after allegedly failing field sobriety and breath tests.

Monroe police responded to a call about a 2011 Audi operating erratically northbound on Route 25 around 11 p.m. Saturday and found a vehicle matching the description swerving into the oncoming lane of traffic.

During a traffic stop, the driver, Christopher DeFreitas, 22, of Kimberly Drive, Brookfield, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, according to police.

DeFreitas was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and brought to Monroe police headquarters, where a breath test showed he was under the influence.

DeFreitas was charged with failure to drive in the proper lane and driving under the influence and released on $500 bond pending a July 8 court date.
