Temporary Police Station Entrance During Construction [VIDEO]

Construction for the $4.1 million police station renovation and addition will begin on Monday.

Construction work for the first phase of the 's $4.1 million building project will begin on Monday and the total project to renovate, modernize and add a small addition to the facility is expected to take one year to complete.

Phase one, which includes a new dispatch center and public entrance, should take five to six months. The main entrance will be closed during construction and a temporary public entrance will be used.

To access to the police lobby during regular Monroe Town Hall business hours, enter town hall and use the stairs by the Tax Collector's Office and follow the signs.

On nights, weekends and holidays the present prisoner entrance — facing Church Street — and the lobby area will be unlocked. A door bell and intercom will be in place to alert the dispatcher.

ADA Access will be provided 24 hours a day via the prisoner entrance. If possible, call dispatch ahead of arrival at (203) 261-3622.

Parking Lot Closure

To protect the safety of citizens and the construction crew working in a confined area, the parking lot of the Police Department (in the back of Town Hall) will be closed to through traffic between Church Street and the Edith Memorial Library throughout the full project.

Police ask that anyone wishing to visit the children's section of Edith Wheeler Memorial Library enter by using Fan Hill Road or Route 111.

In a press release, police said, "We apologize for any inconvenience to our citizens visiting the Town Hall/Police Department/Library complex and thank you for your understanding."
