Those driving down Route 110 may have noticed the familiar sight of carnival rides being set up across from Monroe fire headquarters. The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual carnival beginning Wednesday, July 10 through Saturday, July 13 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night. The carnival is held at the intersection of Routes 110 and 111.

Stewart Amusements will be operating a large number of carnival rides, games of chance and skill, and all the traditional carnival food and snacks will be available. There will be a large selection of rides designed for young children as well.

Parking and admission are free. Parking is available at the carnival grounds (enter on Moose Hill Road), alongside of the firehouse, and at the nearby St. Jude Church on Route 111.

In addition to individual ride tickets, the very popular ride-all-night bracelets will be available for sale where thrill seekers can pay one price to ride all night long. Visitors can also stop by and visit the firefighter's tent for fire prevention tips and materials.

The purpose of the carnival is to raise funds for the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. Monroe volunteer firefighters first hosted a carnival in 1923 to raise funds to purchase their first fire truck, making this one of the oldest traditions in town.

“We look forward to a large turnout where residents of Monroe and beyond will enjoy a safe, exciting, and family-orientated time at the carnival”, said MVFD President Chris Krize.
