Three Injured in Crash on Stanley Road Early Sunday Morning

2011 VW Jetta struck a tree. Injuries are serious but not life threatening, according to police

Three young people were hospitalized with serious injuries at 2:31 Sunday morning after a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta struck a tree at the intersection of Stanley and Judd roads.

Sgt. Manny Dominguez said the injuries to the three young people involved in the accident were serious, but did not appear to be life threatening.

He said the car was going down Hiram Hill toward a curve in the road and continued straight across Stanley Road, before crashing into a tree on a residential property at 8 Stanley Road.

"We have had several accidents there," Dominguez said. "It’s a common accident site."

The driver was Timothy Philbon, 20, of Margemere Drive in Fairfield, the front seat passenger was Ashley Curcio, 20, of Bayberry Meadow Road in Monroe and Blaine Bruner, 19, of Powdermill Lane in Trumbull was in the back seat, police said.

Monroe and Stepney firefighters had to remove the doors and roof of the vehicle to free them from the wreckage. Kevin Catalano, spokesman for the Monroe fire department, said all three were treated by AMR paramedics and EMTs at the scene and transported to area hospitals.

Dominguez said the police accident investigation team spent several hours at the scene, adding the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
