UPDATE: Truck Rollover Closes North End of Pepper Street

A truck carrying garbage this morning rolled over.

Update: 1:45 p.m.

Police said the accident occured at 3:25 a.m. and involved a truck from Phil's Transport LLC out of Trumbull. Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel attended to the 31-year-old male driver, who was uninjured, according to police.

An officer told Patch that the truck was going too fast on a curb on Pepper Street when it rolled over, spilling gasoline and trash.

Stepney volunteer firefighters and Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection personnel were called in for the clean up effort, according to police.

The State Police Truck Squad was also called to the scene to inspect the truck for potential violations.

Initial Report

At 10:50 a.m. orange cones closed off access to Pepper Street from the northern portion of Route 25 and a police cruiser with its strobe lights on also deterred traffic coming from the Tollgate Plaza shopping center nearby. A truck carrying garbage had rolled over in an accident earlier Friday morning.

Trash is all over the street by a driveway of one business and workers are currently cleaning up the mess.

This story will be updated as more information is gathered.

Get Real, it might just have been en route somewhere. Or maybe picking up trash from some of the industrial businesses over there.

Jim, I have noticed in the last few weeks that the dangerous truck driving has really picked up. I'm not sure what that business is that's down that long drive, but twice this week I've come close to being smashed by huge, heavy construction trucks whipping out of that drive.

ummm, its a truck that was loaded the night before heading to bport, the turn is engineered all wrong, backwards pitched compound curve
John M Morelli July 13, 2012 at 10:49 PM
I have driven that curve daily and it is a very bad curve even in a lightly loaded dump truck, and please be mindful of how many hundreds of times I have been cut off by cars on that same strectch

Everybody loves to complain about truck drivers this truck drivers that. Then when they need something delivered to there house it's a major rush. Trucks usually are not going as fast as you think they just appear that way because they are loud and big. How many cars a day blow stop signs and almost cause accidents. I'm sure you see plenty of them everyday you just don't remember them because it's not a big truck. And 99% of the time it's the truck that crashes because he was just cut off by a jerk trying to get in front of him in a car. Truck drivers are professional drivers who are trained for what they do yes accidents do happen sometimes like this but it is usually a car that causes the whole problem.
