Two Bad Accidents, One Sends Two People to the Hospital

Monroe emergency crews were kept busy this morning with two motor vehicle accidents that sent two people to the hospital.

The first occurred on Hammertown Road in the Stevenson section of town around 4:40 a.m. where a vehicle struck a tree, trapping two occupants inside, according to Kevin Catalano, the Monroe Fire Department spokesperson.

He said Monroe and Stevenson firefighters extricated both occupants who were transported by EMS for unknown injuries.

Two hours later, while firefighters were investigating an activated fire alarm on Hidden Knolls Circle, crews were diverted to Hattertown Road in the Stepney section of town (similar name-different street) for a car that flipped onto its roof near the intersection of Knapp Street.

"That driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle on their own and declined medical treatment," Catalano said.

Police are investigating the cause of both accidents.
