Two Dead in Early Morning Car Fire on Merritt Parkway

Initially the Fairfield Fire Department and Westport Fire Department jointly responded to a report of a grass fire on the side of the Merritt Parkway, but on arrival firefighters discovered a vehicle on fire.

Two people reportedly died in a car fire at about 6:30 a.m., Saturday, on the Merritt Parkway, northbound, between exits 42 and 44 in .

"Fire crews extinguished the fire and found two deceased persons inside the car," states a release from Fairfield Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bisson. "The location of the accident was just over the town line in the Town of Fairfield."

The Merritt Parkway was reportedly shut down for several hours between Exits 42 and 44 northbound while state police conducted an investigation. The state medical examiner was reportedly called to the scene.

The report does not state whether the car may have been involved in an accident.
