Women Suffer Injuries in Two-Car Accident on Route 111

Police said the injuries were not life-threatening.

A two-car accident at the intersection of Route 111 and Purdy Hill Road sent both drivers to the hospital for treatment Tuesday afternoon.

Police Sgt. Keith White said the drivers, both women, suffered injuries that were not life threatening and that one was ticketed for running a red light.

The accident report was not yet completed by Tuesday night, but White provided details that were available.

At 3:30 p.m., Jacqueline Evans, 49, drove her car north on Monroe Turnpike and went through a red light while turning left onto Purdy Hill Road, according to police.

Meanwhile, Preciosa Rua Gauger, 37, was heading south on 111 in her SUV and struck the car, before crashing into the steel pole for the traffic light, police said.

Evans was issued a ticket for failure to obey a traffic signal.

White said the road was closed for approximately 30 minutes as the damaged vehicles were removed from the accident scene.

Monroe Emergency Medical Service volunteers provided medical treatment at the scene. Firefighters cleaned fluid leaks from the vehicles.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation sent out a crew to fix the light pole.
