Candidate Profile: Phyllis Kansky

Kansky is running for first selectman.

Name: Phyllis Kansky

Occupation: Human Resource Assistant/Grants Administrator

Political party: Democratic Party

Running for: First Selectman

Why are you running?

I am unhappy with the direction the Town is taking; for example the elimination of the Economic Development Coordinator when this Town so desperately needs to bring good and appropriate businesses to this community.

I believe vision and creativity is necessary to lead this Town through hard economic times and it is lacking in the present administration. I am more experienced and knowledgeable than my opponent and make a better candidate for this position.

What are the three biggest issues facing Monroe?

  • Maintaining quality education
  • Bringing good businesses to this town to broaden the tax base
  • Activity seeking additional revenues that will alleviate some of the burden of the
    homeowner.

How can the first selectman keep the town in the right direction?

The First Selectman needs to exhibit leadership qualities, recognize opportunities
and address problems as the arise — this will keep the town on the right track and help us prosper.

What skills and attributes make you a good fit to be Monroe's next first selectman?

Thirty-seven years of public sector employment in almost every facet of local government.

Vote Today for Phyllis Kansky for First Selectman. The Monroe Courier said of Phyllis: "Phyllis Kansky is knowledgeable about town government. She worked at Town Hall for three decades. Some of her criticism of the current administration has validity, including of Vavrek's unilateral decision to close Town Hall early on Fridays and his handling of the AMEC trash recycling center proposal."

Please do not tell me how to vote. You should be simply encouraging people how to vote. It is one thing to make it known how you are going to vote and show your support, but telling others how they should cast their votes is ridiculous.

She's knowledgeable, worked for three decades, and thinks changing Town Hall hours was a bad idea. Wow. That's some powerful stuff right there. Anyhow, I agree with John F. Give us as many points as you want, tell us how you're voting and why...be encouraging, but don't us how to cast our vote Mr. Kirsch.

Please join me in voting for Phyllis Kansky today. Her position on funding roads was endorsed by the Monroe Courier when it wrote "Vavrek now must start shifting more roadwork costs to the operating budget." Phyllis's position on economic development was also endorsed by the Monroe Courier when it wrote: "This would include pushing for sewers in commercial areas and the possible hiring of a part time economic development director to spur business recruitment and expansion."

AMEC Trash dump = VAVREK

I think the First Selectman's reasoning for early closing on Friday was sound. The staff has not seen much in salary increases for a few years and I sure it was welcomed. I'm also not certain an endorsement from the Monroe Courier is going to sway many voters.
