Council Action Secures Food Pantry Grant

Monroe will receive state reimbursement for the paving and improvements to the Monroe Food Pantry parking lot.

An extension from the Connecticut Department of Social Services gives the town until Sept. 30,2013 to complete a paving project at the Monroe Food Pantry while still being eligible to receive a $39,105 grant. The Town Council recently voted to allow First Selectman Steve Vavrek to agree to the amended contract.

During the meeting, Councilman Nick Kapoor had asked Vavrek why the town needed the extension and the first selectman told him it was to cover the town in case weather conditions delay the work.

The food pantry is located at 980 Monroe Turnpike.
