Names with a capital letter other than the first one that are written without a space in between are not being recognized.
For instance, if someone with the last name DeCourt writes "DeCourt" the software will not recognize her. She instead has to spell it "De Court" even if that isn't the proper way to write it.
Voters who received a canvassing letter and did not return their form were considered inactive and removed from the rolls. The number of registered voters removed or made inactive in this canvassing was over 1,400, according to the Registrars of Voters.
To verify your voting status, visit monroect.org/votersearch.aspx and fill in your name and birthday or address.
After the search, if the message says "name cannot be found" you are no longer on the active voter list.
If you wish to continue to vote, then re-register by going to monroect.org/registrarofvoters.aspx filling out the voter registration form, printing it out, signing and dating it, and mailing it to: Registrars of Voters, 7 Fan Hill Road, Monroe, CT 06468.
A copy of the list of inactive voters is also posted on the registrars' bulletin board in Monroe Town Hall. Residents can stop by and check their status there as well. The Town Clerk has voter registration forms if the registrars are not available.
The registrars would like to thank all those citizens who responded to the canvass, helping to keep the voter registration rolls accurate.
