The Monroe Economic Development Commission unanimously voted to elect Roberto Perez as its next chairman during its meeting Wednesday night. Perez thanked everyone, praised his predecessor, Lee Hossler, and shared a vision of working together, while taking advantage of each commissioner's individual strengths.
Perez looked at Hossler from across the table in the Monroe Town Hall conference room and said, "For 10 years you have been an asset to this group, to this town, to this committee. You can't even measure the work you do for this town. I hope you continue what you've done with the help of everyone at this table."
Perez said all commissioners should step up and do their tasks and be liaisons.
"I plan to use everybody in every facet you're comfortable with, because we all have assets," he said. "This is not a political thing. We're truly in the business of helping the town."
Instead of trying to do a lot of things, Perez said the EDC will concentrate on doing a handful of things really well and build on it from there.
He talked about doing something different with the annual bus tour for commercial brokers, because some who took the tour before have not come back the following year. Perez also asked fellow commissioners to come up with ideas for a promotion to help businesses who traditionally have slow days on Mondays.
Both Paul Moyse and Karin Wynkoop were nominated to be vice chairman. After Wynkoop did not get the four votes needed, Moyse got the needed votes — including support from Wynkoop.
Anthony Giliberti was elected to serve as the next secretary.
