Hearing On Big Box Retail Store Continues Thursday Night

The public hearing for a 160,942-square-foot retail store proposed for 2 Victoria Drive that many believe is a Walmart will continue tonight. Planning & Zoning Commissioners will meet in the Council Chambers of Monroe Town Hall at 7 p.m.

Public comments are already closed, but the applicant will answer questions from land use staff and commissioners before the hearing is closed. Then Town Planning Administrator Will Agresta will likely draft a motion to be voted on at a future meeting.

Kimball Land Holdings LLC is seeking a special exception permit needed to move forward on constructing the store, which would be across from Victorinox Swiss Army's North American headquarters, off of Main Street.

The application has sparked debate in town among those who believe it will spur economic growth and others who think it will hurt small businesses.
