'It's No Secret That We Need New Fields In This Town'

Town Council members unanimously approved the hiring of TPA Design Group for the design, construction, permitting and bidding of new ball fields at Wolfe Park. The fields will be to the west of the tennis courts, according to the proposal.

"This project's finally underway," said Town Council Vice Chairman Frank Lieto, who is also chairman of the council's subcommittee on Planning & Zoning, Public Works and Parks & Recreation Matters. "This is a project that's well needed. It's no secret that we need new fields in this town. I would urge everyone to support this project and look forward to seeing it through."

Lieto expressed his gratitude to Parks & Recreation Dir. Frank Cooper, Parks & Recreation Commission Chairman Tony Scott and Parks & Recreation commissioners for their work on the fields proposal.

The cost for the project is $40,000 and the cost to complete construction is estimated from $300,000 to $350,000. The project is expected to be completed within 60-90 days — weather permitting.

The $40,000 will come from the Field Assessment Account, which has a balance of $60,281. That funding was approved by the Board of Finance and the Town Council. The funding for construction will come from bonding.
