Malloy Appoints Members of Sandy Hook Advisory Commission

The 16 members will now "begin the task of taking a broad, systemic approach in crafting the recommendations that will lead to comprehensive legislative and policy changes that must occur following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School,"

Five days after announcing that Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson would serve as chairman of a new task force charged with drafting policy changes in the wake of the Dec. 14 Sandy Hook School shooting, Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has provided a list of the remaining members.

The 16-member Sandy Hook Advisory Commission will review current policy and make specific recommendations in the areas of public safety, with particular attention paid to school safety, mental health, and gun violence prevention, according to a release from Malloy's office.

“I’ve asked this group to join Chairman Scott Jackson so they can begin the task of taking a broad, systemic approach in crafting the recommendations that will lead to comprehensive legislative and policy changes that must occur following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School,” Malloy said. “This includes ensuring that our mental health system can reach those that need its help, looking for ways to make sure our gun laws are as tight as they are reasonable, and making certain that our law enforcement has the tools it needs to protect public safety, particularly in our schools.”

The creation of the commission is a response to the shooting, which claimed the life of 20 first-grade students and six educators. The lone gunman took his own life, according to state police, who continue their investigation.

An initial report will be due to the governor by March 15, in time for consideration during the regular session of the General Assembly. The commission’s members are currently developing a meeting schedule, which will be announced as soon as it is available.

Good luck Laura, My husband and I tried to get some on Purdy Hill Road from Rt.111 to Rt.25. theyRead More said they can't do it. I have asked numerous times to have a police officer sit in Farmview or use our driveway, said it's too dangerous, go figure. Tired of drivers around town having no respect for other drivers and people walking on side of road. It gets to the point that I don't even want to leave my house. Get a clue people slow down, stay off phones, it's not hard.

I drive this road every weekday and am just as appalled as you are by the speeding. And let me tell you, it's not always youngsters. I've seen a few blue-haired old ladies ride my bumper on that street. We have a similar problem on Barn Hill, another long stretch of road where drivers feel the need for speed. What I can't figure out (with all due respect) is why anybody with half a brain would choose either of those streets for their morning or evening walk. That's just tempting fate.
