Monroe's registrars are busily adding new voters to the list as the Presidential Election draws near. Candidates for Congress and the State Legislature are also vying for seats.
Since April, Monroe has added 173 new voters. That includes 50 Democrats, 68 Republicans, 33 Unaffiliated and 22 as registered as "Other". The total number of voters as of early this week is 12,935 and counting.
On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Registrars of Voters Office will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to examine the qualifications of electors and admit those found to be qualified. Registrars will also be available to restore voters previously removed from the elector list. Monroe is joining registrars from all over Connecticut in offering these hours.
Those who cannot come in person may call the Registrar of Voters or Town Clerk to request a mail-in voter registration application. Applications must be filled out and postmarked no later than 14 days before election (Oct. 23). However, a resident may register or enroll in-person prior to 8 p.m. on the seventh day before the election.
Those with questions should call the Monroe Registrars of Voters at (203) 452-452-2820. The Town Clerk's phone number is (203) 452-2811.
