Wolfe Park Pool Closes Due to 'Dangerous Weather' Conditions

Parks & Recreation Dir. Frank Cooper made the decision at 8:42 on Monday morning.

Heavy rain, thunder and crackling lightning struck Monday morning and the weather forecast for the rest of the day spurred Parks & Recreation Dir. Frank Cooper's decision to close the Wolfe Park pool today.

"Due to dangerous weather forecasted throughout the day, we have closed the pool for safety concerns," Cooper informed the First Selectman's Office in an email.

"However, the sales window will remain open to service membership purchases," Cooper added.

First Selectman Steve Vavrek informed the media of the decision at 8:57 a.m.

For the rest of the day? Really? It is sunny out now. Reminds of the winter when we closed schools before the snow that never came!

I heard from someone who knows a lifeguard that they were sent home without pay.

So just to troll for a second. Which is worse: 1) Paying part-time seasonal workers for something that they don't control? or 2) Paying someone who has invested their time and energy into a position that potentially saves lives?

Any one know why we have so many lifeguards this year it seems like we over hired.
