Masuk Director Gets Props for 'Around the World in 80 Days'

Board of Education recognizes Mike Crowley at its Monday night meeting.

Mike Crowley directed Masuk High School's production of the play "Around the World in 80 Days", which is based on the Jules Verne novel. In the story, the audience follows the journey of Phileas Fogg as he tries to win a bet with friends in 1872.

The show enjoyed success during a weekend in late March and the Board of Education recognized Crowley for his efforts during its meeting on Monday night.

Crowley has been a teacher for 13 years and chairman of the English Department for the last five, according to Masuk Principal Joseph Kobza. Crowley directs just about every school play.

"We always have the top academic students," he said, adding that this year two students in the drama program are valedictorians of their class.

Supt. of Schools James Agostine said, "Good things don't just happen to students without leadership, and Mike, thank you for your leadership."
