Monroe Rotary Club Supports the Unified Sports Program

The Connecticut Special Olympics' Unified Sports program gives local athletes an opportunity to participate in sports. Monroe Rotary Club President Bill Florin and Jesse Treviño presented a $500 check to the Monroe Board of Education Monday night to support the cause.

Trish Pagel and Jennifer Parsell, two teachers involved with the Unified Sports program, received the check, along with Board of Education Chairman Darrell Trump and Supt. of Schools James Agostine.

"We're so very proud of our Unified Sports athletes," said Agostine, who praised Pagel, Parsell and Masuk High School Principal Joseph Kobza for the success of the program in Monroe.

While presenting the check, Florin said, "We have heard an awful lot about the Unified Sports program. Jim has been very excited about it since arriving here at the district and we felt as a club that it was absolutely the right thing to do to help fund this very important program. We're pleased as the Rotary Club of Monroe to present ... this $500 check for the Unified Sports program."
