Snow Causes Early Dismissal for Monroe's Schools

Monroe Public Schools announced a three-hour early dismissal this morning.

Snow is expected to fall throughout the day and Supt. James Agostine decided to dismiss schools three hours early Tuesday. There will also be no afternoon kindergarten or elementary school conferences tonight.

What a joke. A few flakes should not call for an early dismissal.

ridiculous! Truly asinine.

This is misleading. I read this at work and raced home only to find out that there was a 30 minute early dismissal for the elementary students. We already had early dismissals for today due to parent/teacher conferences, so this just added an extra 30 minutes to the early dismissal already scheduled..

you should get on the phone list, it explained in great detail what time each school was getting out

what is the difference to anyone who does not have kids in school?? they are damned if they do and damned if they dont.... so might as well be on the safe side

We are on the list, Jim. Sometimes we get duplicate calls, sometimes none. Today we got an email and a home phone call just before 10:00 a.m., but no cell phone calls. It wasn't until I got home that I found the email and the phone message.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Yes, it was a ridiculous decision yet the previous round of 1-3 inch snowfall resulted in 6+. It's always a gamble.

If I'm not mistaken they get "counted" as a full day so neither the teachers or the kids have to make it up. A win for everyone I guess.
