Lions Claw Out a 14-8 Victory in Tournament Play

The 8th grade Monroe Lions defeated the Waterford Corsairs from Michigan 14-8 Saturday at the Battle at Rocky Top football tournament.

"It was a hard fought game for the the Lions, with Nick Lorusso opening the scoring with a nice reception of a Matt Hersch pass," said Coach Jim Lebinski. "Max Szabo scored next from the Lions' Red Rock formation, and Mickey Zuk punched in the extra point."

Standout performances were turned in by Zuk, Szabo and Ryan Shaw, whose two interceptions helped to secure the victory, according to Lebinski.

The Lions have two more bracket games to play Sunday on their way to the tournament championship.
