Local DAR Chapter Salutes Veterans on November 11
The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), invites our community to salute our Veterans Monday, November 11, at the Veterans Memorial Park at the Riverwalk in Shelton. The chapter has again teamed up with Shelton’s Howe Ave. Dunkin Donuts for the Fifth Annual “DAR and Donuts” in honor of Veterans Day.
DAR and Donuts coincides with the American Legion Post 16 Veterans Day ceremony, which includes their Color Guard and Rifle Squad performing. The ceremony begins at 10:15 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m. with the gun salute in remembrance of the eleventh hour on the eleventh day when the armistice between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect, signaling the end of World War I.
Juliana Lavitola, DAR Veterans Services Committee Chair, is coordinating with Mark Dymerski, franchise owner of the Howe Ave. Dunkin Donuts, to provide coffee and donuts to our Veterans and their families. DAR and Donuts has become a tradition over the past five years, and everyone looks forward to getting together and enjoying a cup of coffee and a munchkin.
The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. Any woman over 18 who can prove an ancestor served in the American Revolution is a prospective member. For more information on the DAR go online at http://www.sarahriggshumphreysDAR.org.
