Newcomers & Neighbors Club Fills Monroe Food Pantry's Shelves

Volunteers collected food and cash donations outside Stop & Shop Saturday

It was three o'clock on Sunday and Megan Clark's SUV was filled with bags of groceries Stop & Shop customers had bought for the Monroe Food Pantry. Clark and 20 other Monroe Newcomers & Neighbors Club volunteers had been collecting the food, toiletries and cash donations for the pantry in shifts since 10 that morning.

"I'm taking the trip," Clark said of making the run up Route 111 to drop the donations off at the Monroe Food Pantry.

She was working alongside Durrill Pinto and Janine Alvear. By the end of the day, Monroe Newcomers & Neighbors had delivered three-and-a-half car loads of groceries and raised over $300 in cash for the pantry, which assists families down on their luck in this faltering national economy.
