A Town Divided Against Itself Can Not Stand

It seems that no one can make a statement or hold an opinion about any topic at all without having half of the town jumping up and down on your back.

Let's take a look at the divisiveness that has taken control of our lives. It seems that no one can make a statement or hold an opinion about any topic at all without having half of the town jumping up and down on your back.

Just look at the posts that Mr. Kapoor and Ms. Kansky put up less than a week ago. In less than five posts with both of them, people were slamming each other and deciding that what was written was not important. Instead, sewers was the big topic.

I was going to write a reply to a post myself, today. But if I did, then I would have fallen into the same trap: Instead of writing about the topic at hand, attacking the person who is responding to the writer of the article. But doing so is not conducive to a productive and friendly society — which is what I want Monroe to become again.

That is how I remember Monroe from my childhood — friendly. If we are to work together on budgets, with the police, the fire department, the EMS, the town government, all of the businesses in town, then we have to become friendlier as a town. I don't mean that the elected and appointed officials have to become friendlier, I mean you and I, the everyday people, have to become friendlier. We have to become more accepting of others. Once we do that then we won't be so divided amongst ourselves.

We have to work together here, folks. The solution to a better Monroe isn't going to be easy. It will take a lot of hard work. I am willing to work hard alongside each and every person in this town who is willing to work for the betterment of Monroe.  Let's work together, folks.
