Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

Monroe's town library was founded in 1954, making it one of the newest public libraries in Connecticut. The little building on the Town Green soon needed more space, and moved into the south wing of a new municipal building known as Monroe Town Hall in 1972.

The library still had to keep up with a growing town decades later, and construction was completed on its current facility in 2006. It was named in honor of philanthropist Edith Wheeler. Director Margaret Borchers and her staff strive to make Edith Wheeler Library the "knowledge navigator" for its community.
