El Coyote does great authentic mexican cusine right. They have a wonderful atmosphere paired with an excellent menu, perhaps their service could use a little tweeking. Other than that EL Coyote is an excellent choice.

Went in a ordered a suggested salmon special. Looked and tasted like canned cat food. Yes, the drinks are good, but I couldn't get enough in me to make that plate taste good. Very slow service as well. If you want great Mexican, try Villa del Sol (Westport/New Haven) instead and let the sun set on this place.

If you want cheap, Americanized "Tex-Mex" style food, don't bother dining here. You will likely be put off by the prices and unimpressed by the food.

If you are looking for a nicer dining experience, enjoy authentic Mexican food sprinkled with a variety of dishes not so typical of Mexico, and are willing to pay $10-$15 for a lunch or $15-$25 for a dinner entree, don't miss this gem.

After being seated in the sunny front room, the spacious back room, or the friendly bar, you will be served chips and salsa. The house salsa is aromatic, smoky, with nice balance of cilantro, onion, and jalapeno. The chips are warm and fresh and not too salty.

There is a good variety of drinks, including the house specialty Lime Boat, a range of tequilas, the usual beers on tap and bottled. I love the mojito. Drinks cost around $6 for a mixed drink, more for top shelf.

We rarely bother with the appetizers because the meals are filling enough. But the guacamole, made fresh to order at your table, is delicious, as is the bocadillos platter.

I have sampled all of their chicken dishes and never been disappointed. The pasta con vegetales is also delicious, and if you're looking for a lighter meal their ensalada con pollo has a delicious citrus-ginger dressing and fresh greens.

Service is attentive, maybe a bit slow but this allows for lingering over dinner and coffee. Family friendly with balloons, high chairs, booster seats, and kids' menu. All in all a great experience!
