The Monroe Animal Shelter takes in stray dogs. Any animal unclaimed by its owner over a seven-day period is put up for adoption. Those wishing to adopt a pet from the shelter need to fill out an application and to pay a $60 fee for spaying, neutering and a microchip. Monroe's animal control officer is Ed Risko.
