The Monroe Police Department has 19 patrol officers who investigate crimes, enforce traffic laws and respond to motor vehicle accidents. Monroe officers are also first responders during medical emergencies.

Led by Chief John Salvatore, the department is active in community policing with such efforts as D.A.R.E., a program to prevent children from abusing drugs and alcohol.

The police department has six sergeants in the patrol unit and also employs several civilians, including two people in its records unit and five dispatchers keeping lines of communication open with the public.
