St. Stephen's School was founded and built in 1962 and staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame. The Catholic school changed its name to St. Jude School after St. Jude Parish was formed in 1974. In 1976, the school was staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Today, St. Jude has an "all-lay faculty" and an enrollment of about 200 students from Monroe and area towns, such as Trumbull, Shelton, Easton, Oxford, Newtown and Seymour.
