Yeah, no I'm with you on the idea that they can't be monitored every waking moment like toddlers. IRead More had posted a second comment but it's not showing up for some reason but basically what I said was that, in my view, though, if one kid was drinking he was likely not the only one which means there should have probably been more chaperones - respecting the fact that those who are there were, I'm sure, doing their best. Like you Christine, when I was growing up there was zero tolerance. I remember on one trip one kid had one beer - he was caught almost immediately and sent home - no questions asked. So that's why it's surprised me that that degree of drinking could have gone unnoticed. A same-gender adult should be in every room, knowing where the kids are after lights-out. In my previous comment, I also went on to explain why this is a very personal issue for me and maybe that's why it wasn't posted? But long story short a friend's son died of alcohol poisoning which resulted in two family suicides, including my friend, and a father who now, like your son, speaks to high school groups - family of 5 now down to 2. Very sad. That's why I react. I'm sure the chaperones are lovely people who were doing the best they could with probably limited resources.

I've heard some people's comments are not being posted or are somehow disappearing from the page.Read More We've had some glitches in 2.0 like that. I'll send an email to the help desk to see if there's a problem.

Thanks, Bill. I see my comments now. Deleted one to avoid redundancy.

18.4%! Watch what happens - a lot of shouting, etc. and then the state will cut them off at 17.5%Read More or some other ridiculous high amount - and say it has completed its responsibility to protect its residents!

We got Friday's dinner from Fresh Pastabilities at the Farmers' Market. Fresh sausage ravioli withRead More roasted red peppers and asiago cheese topped with their fantastic marinara. Yum! With a side of fresh baked bread from the bakers and a salad of mixed greens and tomatoes also purchased at the market, it was a fresh, local, know all of the ingredients dinner for far less than it would have cost us to go out to eat. Love Farmers' Market Fridays!

Jim: That would be unreasonably expensive to have unmarked cars sit in parking lots merely to catchRead More cell phone/texting offenders. Texting and driving is obviously stupid but the law is barely enforceable and creates unintended consequences (now people text in their lap to avoid getting caught which is much more dangerous). Upping the fines a little isn't going to change anything, and neither will adding more unmarked police cars (I mean we had 9 officers respond to a robbery, I think we have enough on duty for a town our size) aside from raising our property taxes that is. I would think education is the best way to lower texting and driving accidents. There are already some campaigns telling stories of the outcomes of accidents and I think that is slowly getting to people to make them realize it's not just illegal, it's dangerous.

Alex...Obviously you are not on the road enough to realize that no matter what the state says, 9 outRead More of 10 are still doing it....it's an addiction...how much does the state of CT spend on advertising not to do this (sorry our tax dollars)

@I live here too- I really don't care what Steve Vavrek or Carl Hunsberger or anyone else did in theRead More past. I care about what they have planned for the future. I am trying very hard not to say anything negative about either one. THat being said, I have a distrust for salesmen and lawyers. I have read a lot of negative comments, and for the most part stayed out of it. But I have noticed there is a deep hatred by a lot of town dems for Vavrek, and none of it seems to not be biased On a final note-I don't care about spelling or grammar. What I care about is expanding our tax base in a responsible way so that people can continue to live in town. But I guess anyone that uses the word obtuse in a post must be much smarter than me.

I find this whole conversation rather shallow and pedantic.
