Congrats to the entire Power Network team for hosting this uniquely energetic event.

Idiots, all around. The state allowed two of the largest casinos in the world to be built 15…Read More minutes away from each other in the worst location possible. Why wasn't one of these casino built in Litchfield county? Both CT casinos are going to get killed once the Mass casinos open up.

Tamar: Signs posted along state roadsides such as Route 25 AND 111 where most of Monroe's commercial…Read More development is located are all illegal since most of them are in the state highway right of way and the State of CT specifically forbids posting of signs of any kind in those spaces. So contact your local state representative to change that practice. Vacant retail spaces and overgrown landscaping in front of commercial properties are the responsibility of the landlords, so go contact them. Clothing donation bins are allowed but need a permit from P&Z. Temporary sign rules get developed because people putting up temporary signs for a specific event often do not go back after the event to take them down so they sit there cluttering the road sides. And as for character, bring it on, that is up to the business owners and developers to renovate and build new buildings that have character and not put up the cheapest structure or sign they can find. "Good Design is Good business."

Here is what happens when town officials make design decisions: Ice cream parlors are not allowed to…Read More fly balloons (Golden Cone.) All donation bins in town are removed (Salvation Army, I Spy Consignment.) No temporary yard signs without a permit (and not for more than 7 days in a row, and 28 days in between...blah, blah) Many, many, many vacant retail spaces on Rt 25 with overgrown weeds and "for rent" signs. So, yes, light fixtures need to work. But maybe the town should rethink what is important. Like why does it matter how many seats a restaurant has before they can serve alcohol? Maybe the Town officials/designers should allow for businesses to have some character. BTW, in my opinion, "Colonial" has been out of style for at least a few hundred years.

Chris: I agree you never buy gas in Monroe, Stratford gas is always 20-30 cents cheaper! One way to…Read More let the gas stations know your concerns is to boycott the stations, but tell them why.

You are delusional if you think a company wants to stay and pay taxes in a state that is trying, at…Read More both the state and federal level, to put them out of business.

If all companies only manufactured products in the state where they were used we sure would have a…Read More lot of businesses here wouldn't we? Or do without a lot of things. I see that a not to distance neighbor is raising Lama's . I wonder how big the call in our state is for them? Are they a good source of food? We are a nation. Yet we don't raise all our own food or produce all the other things we use in our lives, clothing, furniture, rakes, pails, shoes, computers, the list is endless.... already so much is shipped out to China for cheap labor. I now find have to check every can and box to see if the product is coming from China or Mexico or Viet Nam or so many other counties before I make my choices... shopping takes longer and longer ....it's mind boggling. I bought frozen green beans from Trader Joe's and realized after I got home they had come from France. They were good. I enjoyed them. But.....We must have a lot of green bean growers in this area... in this state... in this country, but... maybe not... so we are all becoming international buyers. If the gun company wants to set up a business where people can buy their product that's there choice. Kind of silly two my way of thinking, but that's how I feel. I wonder does the company has a warehouse sales?... or an in factory store that brings in lots of revenue they now won't be getting if they can't sell direct to the customer? fury in a teacup... or a publicity gimmick I'm thinking....Time will tell!!
LittleTalks April 11, 2013 at 07:52 pm
I doubt the gun companies are aligned with the NRA, they have little in common.
But I agree they…Read More are acting childish. I mean just because we are tying to put them out of business they want to leave? If only they were adult about this and continued to produce a product where they are no longer allowed to sell it.

I've eaten there twice. Both times I paid $13 and change for cheeseburger with toppings and fries.…Read More Dont forget leaving a tip. Thats fine, no one forced me to eat there. I always support local businesses. I just think people need to come up with new ideas and new menus to attract and keep customers coming back. yea I am making some funny jokes about hazzard county Nancy. Have you ever been to Buffalo Bills?…Read More Let me know if you dont feel like you're at the boars nest while you're there. ;-) Jim, I know so much about the places because I've live in the town and area for 40 years. Do you not agree that $12+ for a cheeseburger and fries is a little high? I mean we're not in Manhattan...Burgers aren't even good. Have you ever been to Mr Macs? You can feed 6 people with food thats 10x better for the price of 2 burgers at Tavern. They wont be there for more than another year or so. Just like everything else that opens in this town. Nothing lasts. The only businesses still around since the early days are Country Pizza, Pizzaland, Mix and Match, stepney hardware, the Guns and Ammo store and Duchess which I boycotted a long time ago. I'd rather scrape some roadkill off 25 and eat it off toasted bread.

So, fish has become a…Read More popular alternative... along with pizza, Budweiser, Newport Lights, and chocolate fudge brownies.

All Christians celebrate lent...I mean acknowledge that it is there. Whether they actually…Read More sacrifice for lent is a whole nother story. I think the eating fish on Friday is a Roman Catholic thing. NOW...as a Russian Orthodox Christian, my Easter is not until after Passover which puts it on May 5th this year. Our lent starts on "Clean Monday", March 18th. So, not all Christians celebrate Easter at the same time nor in the same way.
