REVMAN - That is my point. Local news has left the Patch. While I was gone I use to be able to keepRead More up with local news, not just the media hype of a coyote attacking a dog but what was going on with the TC, BoE, Zoning and anything else that doesn't make the mainstream media for whatever reason. It seemed that people were actually passing the word around and spreading knowledge on when and where things were happening. Now it seems reading the Patch is equivalent to opening the Hartford Courant. You read more about National News or Congress or Executive Branch than you will hear what your local gvt is doing. Only local news is tag sales, food drives or what to do on Saturday night.

Never cared much for Rell as Governor, especially when she basically ran as a grandmother who lovesRead More her grandkids. However, it really made no difference if she was in the seat or not as the decided Democrat majority dictated everything that happened, especially budget-wise. what do you expect? throwing a baby or kid in with a family who doesn't really want them or has noRead More emotional bond with them?
Craig Zac July 3, 2014 at 09:06 am
So who, at the DCF do we hold responsible for these deaths? Someone there has to be the person whoRead More signs off on these foster parents and ok's them to have kids placed with them... also someone has to be the one who decides what kid goes to whom... these folks should also be charged with homicides after the fact. Prison time might insure that the next people who fulfill these jobs do it with a little more effort!
Middletown Resident July 3, 2014 at 09:46 am
First of all, this article is misleading. "The death of nine children already this year thatRead More have been placed with families involved with the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, the agency is promising to investigate the issue and make improvements to guard against future fatalities, the Associated Press reports". Not all of these children were in foster homes, as you read it, take a look at one of the examples talking about the father allegedly throwing his daughter in her bassinet. The baby was not in a foster home, but was living with her mother. DCF was more than likely involved with that family and trying to work with them. I cannot say how the other deaths occurred and where the children were but I suspect they were with their families where DCF is involved. Craig Zac, I don't understand your comment about "throwing a baby of kid in with a family who doesn't really want them or has no emotional bond with them". Are you referring to an infant or child being placed in foster care? If so, I will tell you that we DO WANT THEM and we DO BOND WITH THEM!! I take these kids in when they need someone to take care of them, feed them, cloth them, love them and help them feel safe! I do it out of the kindness of my heart!

Bob, Liberals like Dick Cheney ? The Dark Ages are over pal. DETROIT — The PresbyterianRead More Church (U.S.A.) voted at its General Assembly on Thursday to change its constitution’s definition of marriage from “a man and a woman” to “two people,” and to allow its ministers to perform same-sex marriages where it is legal. Both measures, passed by large majorities, are a reversal for a church that in 1991 and in 2008 barred its pastors from performing same-sex marriages, and that has held ecclesiastical trials for ministers who violated the ban and blessed gay couples. The Presbyterian Church, a historic mainline Protestant denomination that spans a broad spectrum from liberal to conservative evangelicals, has been mired in the debate over homosexuality for about three decades. The General Assembly’s decision in 2010 to ordain openly gay ministers caused many congregations, including some of the largest, to depart.

Bob June 20, 2014 at 05:03 pm
Pop, You like Cheney now that he supports something you do?That's right vote with your emotions.Read More Wrong is still wrong. As far as churches, Jesus said himself many will be wrong in their teachings and these churches you mentioned are completely wrong to embrace something like this. You won't hear scriptures from them because there are none that support same sex marriage, they are no different than the what feels good liberal mindset. As for Conrad, not sure what "Perhaps" is implying, but the typical liberal and I would dare say majority of liberals would save a tree or whale before an unborn. If you don't realize that then you are following blindly. As for bully? No name calling came from me, just an opinion and the fact that you are jumping to the school yard bully points more to your liberalism. Rereading your posts, maybe you need to man up a little more in life, I wont say grow some, cause liberals would def. call that bullying. Only a politician would try to convince everyone that paying taxes is patriotic. Why then do theRead More very wealthy(politicians and corporations included) hide their money in off shore accounts? The property taxes in this state are some of the highest in the country and do nothing but increases every year. They increase without any regard of the income or a families ability to pay. Yes, its now being labeled as patriotic.
Craig Zac June 25, 2014 at 07:59 am
NO paying taxes is not patriotic and collecting taxes is almost criminal! We get nothing in returnRead More for our taxes... no, we don't get roads, we don't get government services like all those agencies for every little thing (who apparently now also seem to all be armed and have the authority to shoot you for not complying) we don't get protection (unless you call pissing people off THEN fighting them off when they get fed up and attack us, protection) we actually get very little for the amount of taxes we pay. If our taxes went to all the above and even those not mentioned we'd only be paying out a 1/4 of what we are forced to give each week... so no, paying is NOT patriotic, you cannot force patriotism... and collecting taxes is criminal. And I say forced to pay because if you don't you will end up in prison or dead by the feds, the very people and equipment that the tax money bought and paid for! Stick em up sucka, I come fo yo taxes biotch!

THE INTERESTS OF THE TEACHERS UNIONS AND STUDENTS ARE NOT ALIGNED. It is not true that WHAT IS GOODRead More FOR THE UNION IS GOOD FOR TEACHERS nor is it true that WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE UNION IS GOOD FOR EDUCATION, or THE TOWN or THE COUNTRY”! A teacher, even many teachers may have the interest of their students at heart but the UNION IS ONLY INTERESTED IN WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE UNION and THE DEMOCRAT PARTY [a distinction looking for a difference]. In proof I offer the results of a simple free market experiment. When government coercion of teachers’ in the form of mandatory withholding of dues was eliminated union membership dropped. For example the Education Association Council lost 29% of its dues paying members and AFSCME Council 40 membership declined by a dramatic 61% since Act 10 became law. Once again there are always two sides to the story. I work in a company where people are out with aRead More doctor's note, come back for a few days and then out for another 3 days. Come back and then take vacation 2 days later. The same people year after year. These are blacks, whites, hispanics, women, men. So it's not just one race or sex beating the system. On the other hand if you are really sick with a doctor's note then you need and deserve the time off. Unfortunately the union backs these beaters. Remember the union president and their henchmen want to be voted back in.

I have yet to hear of a Union contract that has unlimited sick time and vacation. The capitalistRead More want to rid themselves of the disabled from their businesses. It's a Doctor that decides weather you get a note for time off due to being sick not a union official. What the capitalists want is to be able to fire those who are in need of medical care. The Bosses instead of Doctors want to be able to decided weather you are too sick to work. Just as they want to be able to decide what your insurance will pay for under the affordable care act. They, because of their greed, which they call the most important of human character and the invisible hand logic say that only they can decided all the important decisions you make in life off and on the job.
