Ridgefield's famed children's book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak died Tuesday. The celebrated children's author, best known for his book "Where The Wild Things Are," was "widely considered the most important children’s book artist of the 20th century," the New York Times reports. The Times reports that Mr. Sendak died of complications from a recent stroke, according to his longtime editor, Michael di Capua. "Where The Wild Things Are" was published in 1963, and the story of a little boy named Max who sails into his dreams to have a "wild rumpus" with imaginative, sometimes nightmarish monsters was a bestseller. Margaret (Nardozza) DiMaria, 92, of Waterbury passed away on Monday April 9, 2012 at John Dempsey Hospital, University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Carmen DiMaria. Margaret was born in Waterbury on June 6, 1919, daughter of the late Charles and Anne (Sigerson) Nardozza. She worked in Quality Control at Risdon Manufacturing for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Francis Senior Citizens. She adored her great grandchildren who were her life and joy. Mrs. Elvira (Orsini) Addona Legorano, 74, of 284 Hill Street, died Monday, April 2, 2012 at Abbott Terrace Health Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Domenico Addona. Elvira was born in Pontelandolfo, Benevento, Italy on November 13, 1937, daughter of the late Michele and Filomena (Rubbo) Orsini. She came to this country and settled in Waterbury in 1968. She was employed at Lakewood Metals until she retired and she was a communicant of St. Lucy’s Church. Donna L. Ontko Mastroni, of Monroe, loving wife of Frank J. Mastroni Jr., died peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2012, with her family by her side. Born in Bridgeport, on August 27, 1953, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret Moskal Ontko. Mastroni was the co-owner, along with her husband, of Five Star Motors, Inc. and had also owned her own floral design business. Edward F. Barrett of Monroe died on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, surrounded by his wife and family. Barrett was born in Buffalo, NY, and attended high school in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame, where his father was a law professor, in 1956 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He served two years of active duty in the army, retiring from the army reserves with the rank of captain. Ed then worked at Dupont and Remington Arms. When he retired in 1985 he was Vice President and General Manager of Du Pont's Fabrics and Finishes Department, which included responsibility for Remington Arms in Bridgeport. Natalina Pelino (nee Venditti), of Monroe, devoted wife of Gaetano, died on Feb. 24, 2012, at St. Vincent's Medical Center. She was born in Ripi, Italy on March 20, 1934, and immigrated to the United States as a young teenager. A proud American and active member of St. Raphael's Parish since 1947, she was a breast cancer survivor who enjoyed cooking and gardening. Patricia "Pat" McGorry, a longtime Newtown resident, died Feb. 11, 2012, at the Connecticut Hospice in Brandon after a prolonged bout with cancer. She was born October 19, 1943, to Vincent and Betty McGorry in Flushing, NY. She grew up in Rockville Centre, NY. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Yvonne Burke Malone of Middlefield, and brother, Ken McGorry of Manhasset, NY. Pat was also the loving sister of the late Barbara Moosbrugger of Port Jefferson Station, NY.
