The town bought the first half of what is now William E. Wolfe Park in 1967 and developed it with federal, state and…More local funds.</p> <p>It has grown significantly over the years to include a pool, basketball and tennis courts, a football field, several baseball diamonds and soccer fields, playgrounds and picnic areas.</p> <p>One part of the park is dedicated to concerts and Great Hollow Lake offers a beach experience, with fishing, row boating and hiking and biking trails.</p> <p>This summer Wolfe Park celebrated the opening of a brand new pool, which replaced the old one on the Cutlers Farm Road side of the park.</p>

Visitors enjoy…More relaxing and sunbathing on the sandy, 700-foot beach and swimming in the 16-acre lake, which was constructed and excavated from 1972 to 1976 as a welcome addition to William E. Wolfe Park.</p> <p>Aside from swimming, the body of water is used for rowboats and fishing. It is recognized as a trout park and is stocked by the state of Connecticut.</p> <p>Hikers can walk a three-quarter-mile path around Great Hollow Lake, and the beach area has a concession stand with lunch food, snacks and cold drinks.</p>

The Parks and Recreation Department organizes leagues, events and programs for William E. Wolfe Park. It also…More maintains the facilities.</p> <p>Director David Z. Freedman's department is also responsible for public use of the Masuk High School pool and the Lake Zoar boat ramp.</p> <p>The Parks and Recreation Department enforces rules and regulations for these facilities, which were set by the Parks and Recreation Commission.</p>
