Stray Pigs are Safe & Eating Well (Video)

Monroe Animal Control officers nurse stray pigs found on Old Coach Road late last week back to health.

In this short video, Animal Control Officer Teri LaTulip talks about the conditions of the two stray pigs found digging up mulch in an Old Coach Road resident's yard last Thursday.

You'll also get to see the pigs, a 30-pounder and a 10-pounder.

A wildlife veterinarian will examine the animals on Monday afternoon to determine if they can be nursed back to health and adopted.

Animal Control Officer Ed Risko said the owner did not come forward to claim the pigs, which he says always stay close to where they live or were abandoned.

Risko said the little pig is all bones and the bigger one has scabs all over its skin and a discharge in its eye. But that has been getting better and he said the hog seems happier and is more playful around LaTulip.

The pigs are being kept in isolation to protect the dogs at the shelter in case they have mange.

Risko said he believes the animals were either dumped because the owner couldn't care for them or the pigs escaped their living conditions.
